Sustainability
Responsibly meeting our social, environmental and economic needs for today and tomorrow.
Duffield Printers were the first SME in Britain to become environmentally accredited in 1998. As an integral part of business decisions in meeting demands ecological consideration is given in all aspects of the production chain. Pre press production is totally digital and direct to plate eliminating film and chemicals. The emission-free printing presses are equipped with ink cartridges that retain less than ten grams of ink waste and can be put back into the recycle chain. Press run up waste is minimised and paper is sorted by grade prior to being collected for recycling. No chemical waste is emitted into the water system and the small amounts of chemicals Duffield’s use are collected back into the containers in which they came. All suppliers are accredited and must supply certified documents confirming responsible disposal of any waste.
Paper produced from trees is as much a "crop" as are vegetables. The harvesting of fast growing trees occurs only when their CO2 contribution to the environment is on a decline and is strictly managed to minimise the impact on the environment and wildlife. Interestingly, recovered paper and residues from other wood products, such as the construction industry, represent over 50% of fibre for paper. Not a single tree used in the manufacture of paper comes from rainforests, and reforestation takes place on a minimum ratio of no less than 2 for every tree harvested. Paper is sustainable, renewable and natural product is recyclable up to 7 times.
